Towards Pursuit of Excellence & Inclusive Access in Higher Education...

The Mahatma Gandhi Central University, Bihar envisions to be a leading institution in the field of higher education, research and training. Nestled in the heart of Northern Bihar at Motihari, it will re-kindle another social movement through advanced education inspired by the Indigo Movement initiated by Gandhi from this very holy land that made a Mahatma of Mohandas Karam Chand Gandhi. Bihar has a rich tradition and heritage of scholarship in terms of being endowed with the best and earliest universities of the world and the MGCU definitely aspires to achieve similar echelons in the near future. To leapfrog into the future at a fast pace, the University proposes to establish some of the advanced disciplines in Science, Social Sciences and Humanities that involves cutting-edge technology, research and studies. It aspires to attract some of the best minds and thought leaders that will help create a niche in the global higher education scene. The University would like to assure its potential students and their parents of course offerings that would have thriving linkages with the industry and the world of work. An all pervasive and converging focus would be on building competencies that would match the best human resources and talent in the world. For this, the University would enter into partnerships with the best performing industries and research institutions both in the country and abroad. Students would get an opportunity to be exposed to foreign universities, industries and research institutions through Memorandum of Understanding for students & faculty exchange programmes. Skill development and ethical conduct would be given priority, so also the development of analytical and critical abilities. Students would be prepared to take on challenges head-on in their professional career and personal life with a mix of skill development workshops, interaction with industry experts, and spiritual orientation for building resilience. An overarching emphasis would be on inculcating scientific temper with traditional Indian values. An integrated approach and appropriate pedagogy would be developed to create human resources that would fit into the micro, messo and macro levels of practice catering to policy-making, industry-specific, evidence-based research and social interventions at grassroots for development and people-friendly governance. Indigenous knowledge, art and craft, cultural capital of Bihar would be accessed, researched and showcased in the global arena to highlight the rich traditions of Bihar. All this would be achieved in an environment that would also nurture proven Indian and global values and morals that would create responsive and responsible citizens for the country to cater to the needs of the marginalised and underprivileged sections of the country, thus helping in all round inclusive development. Overall approach would be to make higher education accessible and inclusive.
