School of Humanities & Languages

About School

The Faculty of Humanities and Languages of Mahatma Gandhi Central University, Motihari, Bihar, is committed to expanding human sensitivities among students through literature and philosophy, fostering literary creativity, and raising awareness of the Indian knowledge tradition. Established in 2016 along with the university, this faculty conducts various academic programs such as postgraduate and Ph.D. through its departments of Hindi, English, and Sanskrit. At present, under the leadership of the Dean, Prof. Prasoon Dutt Singh, all 18 distinguished teachers of the faculty, proficient in various literary fields, are engaged in teaching and research, sincerely fulfilling the duty of teachers as envisioned by the great poet Kalidasa.

A teacher is one whose actions are firmly grounded in self-discipline and whose influence on others is imbued with excellence.

Whoever possesses both qualities is truly fit to shoulder the responsibility of teaching.

The Faculty of Humanities and Languages is continuously striving to preserve and promote both ancient and modern knowledge, while also encouraging interdisciplinary studies in contemporary contexts to meet the needs of students and society. At present, Prof. Prasoon Dutt Singh is the Head of the Sanskrit Department, Prof. Pramod Meena is the Head of the Hindi Department, and Dr. Bimlesh Kumar Singh is the Head of the English Department. To make interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary study and research activities more result-oriented, the faculty also operates various centres such as (1) Bharat Vidya Kendra, (2) Centre for Folk Art, Culture and Performance, and (3) Maharshi Patanjali Centre for Yoga and Ayurveda Studies.

The Faculty is fully conscious and committed to the implementation of the National Education Policy-2020 and is appropriately aligned with future plans in this direction. Open Elective courses are being run by all three departments under the Faculty, in which a large number of students from other faculties and departments of the university are also enriching their knowledge.

Through research publications and prestigious awards, the Faculty has gained a distinguished reputation in the academic world within a short span of time. By organizing national and international seminars and conferences, the Faculty has brought together eminent scholars of humanities and languages from around the world and established new paradigms of research. The Faculty also publishes the university’s annual magazine “Gyanagrah” regularly to encourage the literary creativity of the teachers, staff, and students of the university.
